Sling Connectors & Hooks — YNR / HKH / HRK
The hardware that terminates a sling: YNR synthetic sling connectors for joining webbing and round slings to chain, HKH flat webbing chokers for gripping a load in a choke hitch, and HRK round sling self-locking hooks for a positive, self-closing connection. Rated from 1.12 t to 31.5 t and sized by chain diameter so they match the sling they are fitted to.
Request Quote →The Accessory Sets the Rating of the Whole Assembly
A sling assembly is only as strong as its weakest component, and that component is very often the one nobody specified. The sling is bought against a capacity, and then a connector is chosen because it fits. Those are two different questions.
If a 5 t sling leg is terminated with a connector rated 1.12 t, the assembly is a 1.12 t assembly — and nothing about it looks wrong. The webbing is the correct width, the connector is a neat fit, and the label on the sling still says 5 t. Under load the connector is the part that fails, at a fifth of the load the sling could have taken.
The rule is straightforward: every component in the assembly must be rated at least equal to the sling leg it terminates, and the rating must be legible on the component itself. If you are unsure which of ours matches your sling, send us the sling specification and we will confirm the rating rather than let you guess from a photograph.
YNR — Synthetic Sling Connector
A forged connector that joins a chain to a web or round sling, allowing the two to be assembled and taken apart without a shackle and without tools. It is sized by the chain diameter it takes, so it drops straight onto a standard chain leg. The wide, rounded body is what makes it suit synthetic slings: it presents a large radius to the webbing instead of an edge.
| Code | For Chain Diameter | Working Load | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| YNR-6 | 6 mm | 1.12 t | 0.2 kg |
| YNR-7,8 | 7–8 mm | 2.0 t | 0.3 kg |
| YNR-10 | 10 mm | 3.15 t | 0.6 kg |
| YNR-13 | 13 mm | 5.3 t | 1.0 kg |
| YNR-16 | 16 mm | 8.0 t | 2.0 kg |
| YNR-18,20 | 18–20 mm | 12.5 t | 3.0 kg |
| YNR-22 | 22 mm | 15.0 t | 7.5 kg |
| YNR-26 | 26 mm | 21.2 t | 11.6 kg |
| YNR-32 | 32 mm | 31.5 t | 19.0 kg |
Working loads match the G80 chain grades these connectors are designed to take. Other sizes to order.
HKH — Flat Webbing Choker
A webbing choker is the alternative to choking the sling on itself, and it is worth the extra component for two reasons. It spreads the bearing pressure over a wide contact patch instead of concentrating it on one edge of the webbing, and it protects the sling — the choker wears out, and the sling does not.
| Code | Working Load | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| HKH-1T | 1 t | 0.8 kg |
| HKH-2T | 2 t | 1.7 kg |
| HKH-3T | 3 t | 2.3 kg |
| HKH-5T | 5 t | 7.2 kg |
Supplied as a complete choker with the fitting. Other capacities to order.
HRK — Round Sling Self-Locking Hook
A hook with a spring-loaded gate that closes and locks itself once the load comes on. This matters more than it sounds: a plain open hook can roll out of a ring or an eye when the load slackens, and a load that has been set down and picked up many times is exactly where that happens. The gate is rated as part of the hook, not as a safety extra.
| Code | For Chain Diameter | Working Load | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| HRK-6 | 6 mm | 1.12 t | 0.6 kg |
| HRK-7,8 | 7–8 mm | 2.0 t | 1.0 kg |
| HRK-10 | 10 mm | 3.15 t | 1.9 kg |
| HRK-13 | 13 mm | 5.3 t | 3.7 kg |
| HRK-16 | 16 mm | 8.0 t | 6.8 kg |
| HRK-18,20 | 18–20 mm | 12.5 t | 11.0 kg |
| HRK-22 | 22 mm | 15.0 t | 17.0 kg |
| HRK-26 | 26 mm | 21.2 t | 25.0 kg |
The same working loads as the YNR range, so a chain leg can carry either at the same rating. Other sizes to order.
Matching an Accessory to a Sling
Work from the capacity of the leg, not the headline capacity of the assembly. A two-leg sling rated 5 t at 45° is not two 5 t legs — each leg carries roughly 2.5 t at that angle, and rather more as the angle opens. Size the accessories to the leg, and remember that a choke reduces the leg's capacity by 20% or more.
- Check the rating is marked on the component. A connector with no legible marking cannot be verified and should not go into service.
- Never mix ratings within one assembly. If one leg is terminated to 5.3 t and another to 2.0 t, the assembly is a 2.0 t assembly and the load will not distribute the way you expect.
- Inspect the gate on a self-locking hook before every lift. A gate that does not spring closed, or that can be pushed open with a finger, means the hook is out of service. Grit and paint in the gate mechanism are the usual causes.
- Do not repair a forged component. No welding, no bending back, no re-machining. Any deformation is a discard.
- Keep the chain-to-connector fit correct. A connector on the wrong chain diameter loads the link unevenly and will either jam or wear the link.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a synthetic sling connector for?
Joining a chain to a web or round sling. It gives you a connection you can open and close by hand, with a large enough radius that the webbing is not cut or creased at the joint. It is the usual way to build a chain-and-webbing assembly without putting a shackle in the middle of it.
Can I use a YNR connector as the master link?
It is rated for it, and it is used that way, but the geometry has to work: the connector is designed to sit on a chain link, not to gather several legs at odd angles. For a multi-leg assembly where the legs converge, a purpose-made master link or a sling with a sewn master link is the better answer. Tell us the assembly and we will say which.
Do these come with a certificate?
Yes. Every batch is supplied with a certificate stating the working load and the material grade, and the working load is forged or stamped into the component. Components are batch-tested rather than individually proof-loaded.
Should I choose a self-locking hook or an open hook?
Choose self-locking wherever the load can go slack, wherever the hook is on a ring or an eye rather than around a wide section, and wherever the same lift is repeated through a shift. A self-locking hook costs more and is the wrong place to save money.
Can I get these in a different finish or with our own marking?
Yes, on volume orders. Standard finish is forged and self-coloured or galvanised; painted, plated and branded-marked versions can be produced to order. Send us the specification and the annual volume.
All Clever Lifting sling accessories are forged and rated to match our webbing slings, G80 chain slings and U.S. spec slings. Tell us the assembly you are building and we will specify the whole thing rather than the parts.
